DESCRIPTION:Landcare SJ invites community members\, landholders\, artists\, storytellers\, and nature lovers to take part in a creative\, participatory exploration of two rare local eucalypts: Eucalyptus marginata subsp. elegantella and Eucalyptus mundijongensis. \nThis experience blends citizen science\, cultural storytelling\, and emotional connection to place\, transforming the act of finding a tree into a deeper encounter with Country\, history\, and identity. \nWhy These Trees Matter \nThese eucalypts are deeply embedded in the landscape between Perth\, Serpentine\, and the southern Swan Coastal Plain. \nE. marginata subsp. elegantella is a restricted form of Jarrah found nowhere else. \nE. mundijongensis is locally endemic\, shaped by soil\, fire\, and time. \nTheir rarity makes every confirmed record an act of care for the future. \nThe Experience \nParticipants are invited to walk\, observe\, listen\, and document. \nThe event includes: \nGuided bush walks and self-led explorations \nHands-on identification workshops \nIndigenous perspectives\, acknowledging eucalypts as part of living Country\, including their cultural uses\, meanings\, and relationships \nReflections on how eucalypts shape Australian identity\, from ancient knowledge systems to migrant experiences of learning a new landscape \nParticipants may engage through: \nPhotography and mapping \nSketching\, journaling\, or sound recording \nShort creative reflections (words\, images\, or voice) \nFind a Tree – Receive a Reward \nTo encourage discovery\, Landcare SJ is offering rewards for verified records (unknown) of either species within the Serpentine–Jarrahdale area. \nTo participate: \nSubmit clear photographs \nProvide accurate location details \nShare any local\, cultural\, or personal knowledge connected to the site \nAll records will be verified by experienced botanists or project partners.
