SUMMARY:Eucalypt Discovery Self Guided Walk - Australian National Botanic Gardens (ACT)
DESCRIPTION:Explore Australia’s iconic and dominant tree species on this fascinating one-hour self-guided walk.\nThe Australian National Botanic Gardens are open from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm every day except Christmas Day. \nWind your way through the gardens and discover 21 of Australia’s iconic eucalypts on this self-guided walk which is supported by interpretation signs and a printed brochure. \nVisit the Visitor Centre while in the Gardens to pick up a flyer and map of the walk or download one here \nYou’ll learn how to distinguish the three kinds of eucalypt and find out about the variety of leaves\, fruits\, bark and more. \nEucalypts are a defining feature of much of the Australian landscape and an essential part of Australian culture. They dominate the trees of Australia and provide habitat and food for many native animals. \nOf the more than 850 eucalypt species known\, almost all are native only to Australia. Some species have a wide geographic distribution; others are extremely restricted in their natural habitat and need conservation. \nThe initiation and the refreshing of the Eucalypt Discovery Walk has been proudly supported by Eucalypt Australia. \nOur CEO Linda Baird recommends a special visit to the Eucalyptus scoparia – Wallangara White Gum – number 8 on the list – a massive example of what is normally a small to medium sized tree. \n

SUMMARY:Toolangi Forest Secondary Teacher PD Day postponed to T4 2025 (Vic)
DESCRIPTION:Postponed to T3/T4 2025 \nAs educators\, how can we address environmental topics in a way that minimises student disconnection or anxiety about these issues while motivating them to take action? Join Anne-Maree McInerney\, General Manager of Gould League and a recognised global sustainability advisor\, for a day-long exploration in the forest alongside experts in climate science\, biodiversity\, drones and water conservation. This professional development opportunity is designed to uplift and inspire teachers as they discover the economic\, social\, and long-term advantages of healthy mountain forests and their critical role in our future. \nWe will discuss the immense value of ecosystem services forests provide such as crop pollination\, water purification\, food security\, and carbon sequestration\, which collectively amount to trillions of dollars worldwide. Participants will gain insight into local wildlife adaptations\, the historical significance of ecosystem services in the Yarra Ranges catchment area\, and the effects of human activity. Our expert speakers in Climate Science and Water Services will ensure that teachers leave with crucial information that aligns with the school curriculum. This knowledge will be reinforced through an outdoor walk in previously burned forest areas and a hands-on skills session\, allowing teachers to experience first-hand what their students would encounter during an excursion. \nThis day celebrates the magnificent tall trees of the Toolangi State Forest and the river system that sustains us\, providing Melbourne’s water supply. This innovative approach to real-world learning offers a peek into the future of education\, fostering resilience\, creating jobs\, and making positive contributions to society and the environment.

SUMMARY:Pine Rivers Koala Care Habitat Generation Bundalong (Qld)
DESCRIPTION:This is an event to celebrate National Eucalypt Day. Our habitat working bee is on 15th March at YMCA Bundalong Camp\, Byrnes Rd\, 7.30am-10.30am. Look for the bushcare sign on the right-hand side by the gate. \nPlanting will be dependent on weather as the ground needs to have some rain before more new plants can be put in. Over 200 native plants went into the ground on 15th Feb at our last working bee. There will be some planting\, followed by maintenance around these previous plantings. (Article for 15th Feb). Wire mesh was placed around the eucalypts to discourage the local macropods (wallabies). Any plant protection covers may need hand weeding. If it’s been dry\, we will hand water from 5lt containers. \nThis habitat site is so important for the area due to all the work in and around Youngs Crossing Rd and the new bridge installation. The road widening and straightening has meant the removal of huge established eucalypt trees\, which has seen a lot of the wildlife pushed up towards the corridor between Byrnes Rd and Dayboro Rd. Please come and join us. \nWhat to Bring \nHat\, water\, closed-in shoes\, sun-safe clothes (long trousers\, long-sleeve shirt)\, bug spray\, gardening gloves if you have them and your family and friends. All other equipment supplied. \n.

SUMMARY:Eucalypts on the Merri Creek in Iuk Season with ecologist Michael Longmore (Vic)
DESCRIPTION:Join ecologist Michael Longmore from the Merri Creek Management Committee for a walk along the merri merri to visit and learn about our eucalypt locals during Iuk (eel) season. \nThe temperatures cool\, the manna gums flower\, and the days and nights become equal in length. The rain moth caterpillars are underground munching on the roots of the eucalypts. \nMeet at the Newlands Neighbourhood House in Coburg North and then walk down to the merri merri. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather! Please note we will be walking on uneven and possibly slippery surfaces.
