SUMMARY:Introduction to Botanical Dyeing with Stacey Currey (Qld)
DESCRIPTION:Join Stacey Currey at the Samford Community Hub in celebrating National Eucalypt Day 2021!\nThis workshop is an afternoon of exploring textiles\, plants\, flowers\, and discovering the magic of the dye pot. Eucalypts are one of the most readily available dyers and we will explore these beauties further. \nYou will be introduced to how to capture colour and create patterns on fabric and paper\, using a variety of techniques and dye stuffs.\nThis workshop is for those seeking to:\n– reduce the impact of their fashion choices by learning how to create beautiful low impact designs;\n– learn a new skill easily accessible by drawing on the environment around you;\n– connect with other creatives who enjoy sharing and learning from each other; and\n– explore their own creativity through a historic craft. \nThis is an experience-based workshop where you will be guided in creating something truly unique by discovering the plants around you. \nYou will take home your very own botanically dyed cards\, and large swatches of material that can be used in a multitude of ways. \nWhile dye stuffs are provided\, you are encouraged to bring along leaves\, plants or flowers from your garden. Given that it is a National Eucalypt Day celebration please bring a variety of  eucalypt material with you.  You can even bring along your fresh compost scraps to see what we can use!\n \nPlease bring along:\n– Water bottle\, Hat\, Towel that can get dirty\n– Any dye stuffs you choose to bring from home\n– Plastic bag or bucket to take your works home \nAfternoon Tea is included \nAbout the Workshop Host \nLocally based Stacey Currey\, the textile Artist who created Shining Forest Studio\, will be your guide for the day. She works with natural materials to capture the beauty of nature through botanical dyes and printing. Ethically conscious and sustainably minded Stacey predominately works with small producer created fibres\, upcycled or end-of-line fabrics.\nYou can find her wandering landscapes or stopping the car by the side of the road (her children do not even ask her what they are doing anymore\, they know the drill!)\, to source dye stuffs locally with respect and kindness to the environment.\nStacey is a kind and patient workshop host who is excited to share her insight as a catalyst for your creations.

SUMMARY:Field Trip with Leon Costermans (Victoria)
DESCRIPTION:Please note\, tickets are in super high demand with very limited numbers… we have given preference to those who booked for 2020 but unfortunately missed out due to Covid lockdowns. \nIf for any reason you can no longer come please call or text Linda on 0421604711 and we will release your ticket to someone else. \n\nBook here: \nhttps://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/eucalypt-identification-field-trip-with-leon-costermans-tickets-144351897411 \n\nAre you interested in deepening your knowledge of eucalypts? If so\, this is a unique opportunity to take a guided walk with renowned botanist/geologist Leon Costermans to get to know eucalypts both in natural bush and in planted situations. \nThe first location will be the George Pentland Botanic Gardens at Frankston where Leon will facilitate practice in observing and identifying eucalypts using his iconic pocket book ‘Trees of Victoria and Adjoining Areas’. \nAfter a BYO lunch at the gardens\, the group will drive to the Langwarrin Flora and Fauna Reserve (about 5 km) for a gentle bushwalk for field identification of eucalypts (and possibly some other plants) in their natural environment. This 214-hectare reserve is recognised as an outstanding area for conservation of indigenous flora and fauna; it also has a very significant military history. \nSchedule: \nMeet at 9:45am just inside the Gardens gate at the corner of Foot St and Williams St\, Frankston (Melway map 100A: H13).  Arrive in good time to secure parking in the east end of Williams St. \n10:00am to 12pm: Gardens walk and identification practice.\n12:00pm (approx.) Have BYO picnic lunch & drinks at the George Pentland Botanic Gardens (there is a picnic area and shelter\, but we will have to ‘share’ it with other visitors).\n12:45pm (approx.): Leave for Langwarrin Flora and Fauna Reserve\, to meet in the car park in McClelland Drive (Melway 103:C10).\n1pm to 3pm: Drive and walk to identify eucalypts and other plants within the reserve. \nNote that this session is intended as an introduction to eucalypt identification\, though there will be some challenges for those with some experience. To gain the most from the excursion\, you will need a copy of Leon’s book ‘Trees of Victoria and Adjoining Areas’ (5th or 6th edition\, with a green cover). This is an invaluable resource for both beginners and more experienced bushwalkers and nature lovers. Please bring your copy if you have one. If not\, books will be available for purchase at the gardens for $10 (cash only please). \nPlease come prepared for the weather and wear shoes suitable for walking some distance.  There is no toilet or water at Langwarrin. \nAll participants are expected to comply with any Covid-19 related requirements that may be applicable at the time. \nThis excursion is subsidised by Eucalypt Australia as part of the National Eucalypt Day program. \n\nBooking preference will be given to those who booked for 2020 but unfortunately missed out due to Covid lockdowns.
