Set against our 27-hectare sanctuary\, the day will inspire visitors to connect with nature and understand the importance of eucalypt conservation. \nActivities include:\n– Event stall featuring koala food displays and hands-on craft activities.\n– Eucalypt-inspired arts and crafts\, including creating a ‘Eucalypt Man’\, flower crowns\, gumnut headbands\, wands\, koala masks\, and nature collages.\n– Koala and gum leaf-themed face painting.\n– Photo opportunity area with arches adorned with eucalypts and local flowers; visitors are encouraged to share on social media with #LoveAGum.\n– Visit from Nutty the Koala\, dressed in a eucalypt-inspired costume.\n– Storytelling with Sarah Eccleston\, author of Have You Seen a Tree for Me?\, exploring the challenges koalas face in the wild and the importance of habitat preservation.\n– Stick insect display\, showcasing three species and their role in the ecosystem \nSanctuary team members\, experts in native plants and koala care\, will showcase the sanctuary’s gumtree species and explain how eucalypts sustain biodiversity\, provide habitat\, and support climate resilience. \nThe event is free to visitors\, offering hands-on experiences that foster awareness\, stewardship\, and a connection to Australia’s iconic eucalypts.

SUMMARY:Seed Ball Making with Dean Cross - Potter Museum of Art (Vic)
DESCRIPTION:Join multidisciplinary artist Dean Cross and make living art that will travel beyond the gallery as part of celebrations for National Eucalypt Day. \nYou’ll be guided to shape seed balls from paper and gum tree seeds that will form part of Dean’s new commission in the upcoming exhibition Ngarn Wa’ngal: Art of the gum tree. Each ball will be dispersed back to Country after the exhibition closes and activated by rain for revegetation. \nThe day will begin with a Welcome to Country by Aunty Kim Wandin\, senior Wurundjeri artist and Elder. Dean will then share insights into the creative process behind the commission. The activity will be facilitated by Dr Katherine Horsfall\, Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne’s School of Agriculture\, Food and Ecosystem Sciences. \nAprons and gloves will be provided\, but please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.

SUMMARY:Free Nature Journaling Workshop in the Melton Botanic Garden Eucalypt Arboretum (Vic)
DESCRIPTION:This free event celebrates National Eucalyptus Day and is held in conjunction with the Friends of Melton Botanic Garden. \nThis 2-hour nature sketching / nature journaling workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those experienced. Come along and explore the amazing Eucalypt Arboretum at Melton Botanic Garden in a new way. You might be curious about our eucalypts\, wanting to spend some time in nature or trying something creative. Workshop facilitator Kathleen is very friendly and helpful\, and provides tips and techniques. \nThe workshop will be held outdoors\, and we will be focusing on the beautiful Australian eucalypts – their incredible blooms\, gumnuts\, leaves\, bark\, everything – in all their colours\, shapes and textures! Some of the River Red Gums are over 200 years old!! All supplies provided\, including light refreshments. Come along and enjoy all that nature is offering. \nFor those new to nature sketching / journaling – come along and learn some techniques in a friendly relaxed session\, with all supplies provided. No experience is necessary. Even if you think you are not artistic or creative\, this session is for you and you are very welcome. \nFor those experienced in nature sketching / journaling – come along and join other like-minded people (nature lovers\, creatives\, mindfulness advocates). There will be a variety of techniques offered. BYO your favourite journal and supplies\, or use those provided.
